CELEBRATION OF GEORGE’S LIFE SERVICE: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong with Bro. Phil Boyd officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL.

EXPRESSSION OF SYMPATHY:  The family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Hunt City Food Pantry with envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, PO Box 121, Oblong, IL  62449.

George E. Wendel, 76, Yale, IL. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

George was born on May 2, 1938 in Brocton, IL and was the son of Homer Glenn Wendel and Ehe Kathryn (Hagen) Wendel.  On June 22, 1958 he married Wanda Frances Fitzmaurice in Willow Hill, IL.  She preceded George in death on April 14, 2007.

George was a lifelong farmer but also worked over the years at Jesse B. Holt and Townsend Lumber Company both of Newton, IL. and Gharst Lumber Company in Louisville, IL.  George attended Brocton, IL. schools and was a member of the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church, Hunt City, IL.  George coached a men’s fast pitch softball team in Hunt City in the early 1970’s.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan; enjoyed tractor pulling and attending Car Shows with his brother-in-law Maynard Bryan and George was very active in the Hunt City Food Pantry at Hunt City Congregational Christian Church.

George is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Tanya and Randy Hayes of Robinson, IL; his brother Dale Wendel of Paducah, KY.; his sister Kathy Huddleston of Oblong, IL.; brother-in-law Maynard Bryan of Willow Hill, IL.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Phil and Linda McMillen and Joy Fitzmaurice of Oblong, IL.; Donnal and Sharon Fitzmaurice  of Willow Hill, IL.; and Albert and Edna Fitzmaurice of Newton, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

George is preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda and his sister Betty Bryan.
